South Shore Getaway to Oak Island Resort

Experience the best of our delightful South Shore while enjoying a two-night stay at the Oak Island Resort and learning about the longest running search for lost treasure in the world!

Itinerary

Day 1 – Mahone Bay Touring
Depart Halifax for the charming South Shore where you will experience the best of Mahone Bay today.  The century-old architecture is sure to captivate as you enjoy a walking tour with a local historian and free time to shop and enjoy lunch on your own.  Among the other included activities are Amos Pewter where you will see the artisans at work and enjoy a hands-on activity.  Also visit the Mahone Bay Museum which is situated in a Heritage building (c 1875) and houses exhibits including settlement by “Foreign Protestants” in 1754 and shipbuilding history of the area.  A highlight of the day will be a tasting at the Saltbox Brewery where you meet the growers of local Haskap berries and enjoy a sample of Haskapa Cider.  Check into the newly renovated Oak Island Resort for a two-night stay overlooking Mahone Bay, and Oak Island, home of the world’s longest running hunt for lost treasure!

Day 2 – Lunenburg Touring
Visit the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic before a walking tour of Lunenburg, the home of the Bluenose, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in our own backyard. The town’s distinctive architecture and extraordinary scenic beauty is a colourful reminder of our maritime heritage. After lunch and a tasting of local  beer at the Grand Banker,  Visit the Ironworks.  This artisanal distillery housed in a former marine blacksmith's shop dating from 1893 that once produced ironworks for the shipbuilding trade.  Today they craft spirits with the same love of traditional methods and attention to detail as they distill by hand using only natural ingredients as fresh and local as possible.  Your day concludes with an amazing adventure as you explore by boat the mysteries and magic of Mahone Bay.  This narrated outing will afford you the opportunity to see Oak Island from the Bay, and to view key sites featured on the History Channel television show, The Curse of Oak Island! (Breakfast, Lunch)

Day 3 – Homeward Bound
En route back to the city, enjoy a scenic drive including Lahave, and also a tasting at the Petit Riviere Vineyards, a destination winery boasting an idyllic, serene location where the unique terroir of one of the oldest grape growing regions in North America enhances their distinctive wines. (Breakfast, Lunch)
